Why Africans were chosen for slavery
The ideas of “God & Country” are one and the same; it goes beyond biblical. No matter what country, and no matter when, cultures evolved through religious beliefs. What God you subscribed to (if any), naturally leads to wanting to be in a place where your beliefs are common and accepted. Countries are established through wars, which usually involved religious beliefs.
AS A person who always asks questions, I wanted to know WHY Africans WERE selected to become the slaves of the new world, in the Americas? The statements of the previous paragraph have everything to do with the answer. No matter how many historical myths are proposed, World history, made a deepest impact.
For the sake of simplification, I would like to start with a place called Al Andalus. It was a highly cultured civilization on the tip of Morocco, Africa; just a skip across the Gibraltar Strait, to Spain.
From here, the culture of the [Muslim] Black Moors of Morocco influenced the cultures of Europe for centuries, from the 700’s up to the 1300’s. In the last 4 centuries of their influence; from1060 to the 1300’s the Holy Roman Empire began their quest for Christianity, and to take back the conquered lands. The “Crusades” were the means to make it happen.
There is so much more to the story. Here is a link, that explains it much better than I can: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCm6j147gFk a YouTube video of the Muslim conquests, and influence; and demonstrates why Africans were a choice for slavery in the Americas. It was more about politics, than faith. The idea was to stop their influence in Europe, and prevent their influence in America.
If you watched the video, you understand that after conquering, Persia, Asia, Rome, and northern Africa, factions of the Muslim religion were at the door step of Spain, and then Europe. So, the Catholic or Christian religion went on the offensive, to make sure they ruled European lands.
This was more about rulership, than religion as we know it. The Pope (who held a Caesar-like control of the “religion”) was next to the monarchy/kings of many countries. They ruled in tandem, and sometimes in opposition (i.e. England).
The Black Moors/Africans/Muslims of Al-Andalus were held in esteem in many Europeans societies for a very long time. The were fierce worriers for 7 centuries, and of high intellect.
So, when the Pope urged the King of Spain to eject the Black Moors in 1492, the saga of slavery in the new Americas was born.
PS. Any non-Christians deserved persecution, or were thought to have no soul.
